Textile Challenges - January

The Challenge for this month on Textile Challenges is to make a paper quilt 12" square, with a fabric backing - actually following the criteria in the latest edition of Quilting Arts magazine. As you can see I don't take very good photos!
Here is a closeup of the top half using my scanner - a lot easier! The papers I used are table napkins, the main 'quilt' is a whole napkin which had a cream centre and green border originally (I nobbled from my next door neighbour over Christmas) I seem to be painting a lot of things 'orange' lately; it must be this ready mixed paint I have!
This is a closeup of the bottom half, and you can see I have embellished the painted napkins with beads, eyelets, tyvek, a piece of lace and various rubber stamping. There is some hand stitching with metallic thread (in the top half) but most of the stitching is done with the machine.

Hi Val!
Amazing what you can do with a paper napkin. So beautiful. I`m going through an orange period too. Due to the lousy weather we are having I think. The orange color makes me feel warmer....or at least I hope so. Your pics definitely made me feel alot warmer though.

Thanks for charing!

Jeanette

Wow! This is gorgeous. Hard to believe it started as a paper napkin =0)

it looks lovely -- I really like the greens and oranges you're using these days -- warm and comforting at the same time :-)

I'm looking forward to my first multimedia class at joggles later this month as I've never worked in paper... hope one day I too may play with napkins

Gorgeous, Val. I'm not sure I'll have time for the paper quilt challenge this month, but maybe someday - it's on my (ever growing) List of Stuff To Try...

This is lovely, Val, I love all the little details, especially the holes in the bottom half. I bought myself a crop-a-dile the other day and was thrilled with it, but so far it's only Ben whose had the imagination to use it!
The colours are so seductive in this piece too, they remind me of Tudor romances.
Really lovely!
